Scripture to Memorize

She makes coverings for her bed;

she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

Her husband is respected at the city gate,

where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

Proverbs 31:22–23

Passage to Read

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. For this is the way the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to make themselves beautiful.

1 Peter 3:3–5

Guided Prayer

Dear Lord, I don’t want my beauty to come from the outside. I don’t want people to think I’m beautiful just because I have the latest hairstyle and a great, fully accessorized wardrobe. I know such beauty can last only to a certain age. I want my beauty to radiate from the inside out. I want people to look at me and think, There’s something about her!

Holy Spirit, you alone can transform me from the inside out. Only your power at work within my spirit, soul, and body can make me, and keep me, a truly beautiful woman. Teach me to cultivate a gentle and quiet spirit. I know that’s of great worth in your sight. Forgive me for the times when I’ve been so focused on my outward appearance that I’ve neglected the inward reality. Forgive me, too, for those times when I’ve neglected both.

Thank you for the example of godly women throughout the Bible. And thank you for revealing that many of them, including Sarah, did possess outward beauty. I’m glad it’s okay to be beautiful because it’s one of the desires of my heart. Lord, make me beautiful. Amen.
